Prove your supply chain is right-to-work compliant

Since 1 October 2026, your business can be fined up to £45,000 per worker for illegal working anywhere in your subcontractor, agency or platform chain, even if you never hired them.

What changed

The rules moved up the chain

  • Before: you were responsible for checking your own employees.

  • Now: you can be fined for workers supplied by subcontractors, their subcontractors, agencies and online platforms, including stand-ins sent in someone's place.

  • The fine: up to £45,000 per worker for a first breach, and £60,000 for a repeat. Directors who knew, or had reasonable cause to believe, can face prosecution.

What protects you

Your defence has to be in place before work starts

The law gives you a defence, called a statutory excuse, only if three things are already in place before anyone starts work

The right contract terms

with every supplier, passed down the chain

Controls on substitutes

so no stand-in starts until they've been checked

Identity matching on site

On-site identity matching, carried out through the client’s certified ID-check provider.

Evidence file

Audit-ready evidence file

Most businesses didn't need these before 1 October. That's the gap we close.

About

About ClearChain Compliance

ClearChain Compliance helps UK businesses prove their supply chains are right-to-work compliant. We focus on one thing: putting the contract terms, controls and evidence in place that give you a legal defence across every tier of your supply chain.

How we work

  • Fixed fees, agreed up front. No hourly billing, no surprises.

  • Practical, not theoretical. We set things up with your team and leave you with a working system and evidence you can use.

  • Security built in. Right-to-work records include passports and other sensitive data, so we apply information security standards to everything we do.

  • Clear about our limits. We’re not lawyers and we don’t advise on individuals’ immigration status; we work alongside solicitors and certified ID-check providers who do.
